Providentially, I'm at a breaking point in my devotional study as of today--here's an idea if you are in the same boat.
The OT historical books (Joshua, Judges, Ruth, Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther), if read thoughtfully, should cause us to burn with longing for a Perfect Leader. If you can, why not pick a historical book (Judges, Samuel, Kings or Chronicles would seem prime candidates*) and see what elements are recorded where the leadership failed and how God responded to that failure (either in judgment by action or by word). And, most importantly, what is God's plan to fill that void through His Perfect Son, who will reign righteously on the earth one day. I'm going to start with Judges. May the Lord bless you.
